About Joe and Mary
JOSIAH BEER • I am a recently retired (June of 2007) teacher of English, journalism, and photography, who has set about to make a new patchwork career of several hobbies (i.e. photography, watercolor painting, drawing, and the making of note cards).
Slowly, I'm building skills and inventory. My works (paintings and note cards) have been, or currently are, or soon will be on display in some of the area banks, Burdick's Restaurant, and Colony Mill. I have also participated in several art walks and art tours. In 2010, I expect to participate in the art events once again, as the sale of paintings and cards has gone well in those settings.
As of December 2009, a selection of my paintings and all of my note cards have been for sale at the Walpole Artisans's Co-operative, an organization of which I am a member.
Having taken the photographs for the Walpole Historical Society's recent calendars (2004 - 2009), I have started my own set of paintings and drawings of some of the historic houses in Walpole. I have also painted a few street scenes of some of the downtown hangouts. Watercolor paintings, drawings, and photographs of the Walpole Houses are visible on this site in galleries #3, 6, 8, 9, and 10.
Note cards can be purchased on-line through this site. Cards can also be purchased individually or in sets at the Walpole Artisans' Co-operative. They are also available at The Toadstool and at Hannah Grimes in Keene, and at Ruggles & Hunt in Walpole NH.
MARY BEER – when she isn't teaching reading skills to young children – is my financier, business manager, editor, and chief picker-outer of frames and mats. She makes things pretty enough to put out for show. As you can tell, kayaking is one of Mary's favorite activities.
My support team also includes three sonny Beers: Josh, Jesse and Zach, a teacher, a banker and a psychology major doing doctoral work at Ruhr University in Bochum,Germany.
We hope you enjoy Josiah's Art, both the site and the works.
Thank you for your interest.
